Antibiotics and Hormones
Unfortunately, it's common practice in many industrial feedlots for producers to feed animals doses of antibiotics to prevent infection when animals are tightly crowded in contaminated spaces. These operators may also use various growth hormones to increase weight gain.
Our family farms don't participate in this unless absolutely necessary for the health of the animal. Sometimes animals get sick, just like people do. So, with the help of professional veterinarians they will administer what is required. This is by far the exception, especially since animals are pastured and we never support feedlot operators.
